College Rush: Opening Fraternity Membership to International Students

In 2024, the founder of College Rush drew on five years of advising experience with a major global tuition payment corporation for international students. Frequently asked about their own UC Berkeley journey, connections in the Greek System, alumni benefits, and more than fifteen years in higher education student services, a recurring question emerged from international student WeChat groups: “How can I join a fraternity?”

Challenges for International Students

For international students, joining a fraternity seemed almost impossible. Limited member quotas, high membership costs, and the timing of campus “rush” contrasted sharply with international students’ visa and travel schedules, creating barriers that often couldn’t be overcome.

Impact on Careers and Networks

Many international students expressed how this gap negatively impacted their job search and global networking opportunities. Recognizing the significance of this challenge, College Rush stepped in and secured the only international student partnership with the North America Fraternal Council, opening fraternity membership to international students for the first time.

Leadership and New Opportunities

Now, international students can gain fraternity officer experience and add it to their electronic resume (EV). This year, College Rush makes it possible to demonstrate leadership and participate in fraternity life.
